General Armament Department Engineering Design & Research Institute (also named as "Beijing Special Project Design and Research Institute") is the largest comprehensive first class project investigation and design research institute in the whole army. It's the overall design and research unit for engineering construction of the General Armament Department as well as the overall technical research demonstration unit of missile, satellite, and manned space flight trial launch project. The Institute was established in 1958 in Beijing. At present, the General Institute has over 600 employees, 170 senior engineers, 300 engineers, 63 state-level first class registered architects, and 78 state-level first class structure engineers, among whom 52 enjoyed Special Government Subsidy awarded by the State Council, 2 was awarded "Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contribution" by the Ministry of Personnel, PRC, 2 was awarded "China Project Design Master" by the Ministry of Construction, PRC, 1 was selected as "China Excellent Worker", and 1 won the only Earth Award in the whole army and was listed among the first group of first and second-level trainees in the "Millions of "Talents Project of the state.
